My Sewing Journey
During lockdown, like many people, I had more time on my hands, and was looking for something creative to get involved in. I have been making jewellery for years, but wanted to try something new.
When clearing out my cupboards, I found my sewing machine that I’d purchased some years previous, a pattern and some lovely fabric, that I’d also acquired, then tucked away in a draw, not to be seen until a Global Pandemic!
I dug them out — still not confident enough to attempt the fabric, I looked to YouTube for some inspiration. I started with bags and face masks…. that was it — I was hooked!
I bought some fairly inexpensive fabric from Amazon so I could try some garments. YouTube was helpful here too — ideas on how to self draft patterns inspired me to have a go. I made a full circle skirt, and created a pattern for a top based on one I already owned. I was so proud to have made 2 garments I could actually wear.
I found “Tilly and the Buttons’ Sew it Simple book and haven’t looked back. Her patterns are so easy to follow, and make it so clear for beginners — not like any patterns I’d ever seen before! This gave me the confidence to get started.

I hope to continue my blog as I progress through my sewing journey, and learn new skills. I may even have a go at vlogging on YouTube!
